Audrey "Granny" Price Obituary (1934 - 2022)

Audrey "Granny" Price of Virden, went to the arms of her Lord and Savior on September 1st, at 6:15pm and reunited with the love of her life, Donald "Pop" Price. Audrey was born July 14, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois along with her four younger siblings, "Ark", Mary Lou, Jimmy, and Margie. She later went to Auburn High School. She met Donald Price one evening at a coffee shop when she tossed a penny over the booth and it landed in his coffee. They married July 21, 1951. Audrey and Donald had 64 beautiful years together and had four children. Elizabeth (Larry) Helton, Kathy Price, Michael (Carmen) Price, and Jennifer (Ryan) Brown. Next came their beloved grandchildren; Eric (Amy) Helton, Clint (D'Lynn) Helton, Crystal (Shannon) Strohkirch, Lisa Cunningham, Laura (Marty) Sommerfeld, Jim (Nicole) Wright, Mark (Jill) Wright, Rachel (Jeff) Bethard, Jodi Mooney, Justine Williams, Joshua (Michele) Mooney, Macie Brown, and Aiden Brown, as well as 20 great grandchildren. Audrey was lovingly known as Granny to all who knew her. In addition to raising her family, Granny retired as a Graphic Illustrator for the Illinois Secretary of State. Also, throughout her lifetime, she had worked as a dress maker, grocery clerk, election judge, Macoupin County Courthouse clerk, created children's books, operated A & D crafts company with Donald, caregiver for many sick loved ones, was a girl scout leader and family barber, stain remover & crossword puzzle queen. Additionally, she was an active and proud Republican, nutrition and vitamin expert, church puppet maker and master, a polka dancer, an amazing cook, famous for her chili, vegetable soup, burgers and sugar cookies. She served as an Air Force grandmother at Eglin and Tinker Air Force Base, baked cookies for hundreds of young Airmen & Soldiers for Christmas. Finally, she loved to crochet gifts for those she loved, founded the Widows/Widowers Social Uplift Group in Virden at the age of 87, and cared for rescue animals with her granddaughter Macie. She enjoyed many years of being a full time "snowbird" in Crestview, Florida with her youngest daughter and family, and all the new family she made there over the years. She loved her church, the First Baptist Church of Virden, where she also served with the American Baptist Women's Missionaries. She was predeceased by her parents Margret and Andrew Kendall, husband Donald, her brother Jimmy, grandchildren Michael, Donnie, and Evan, and son-in-law Larry. Audrey was an amazing daughter, wife, mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was patient, giving and kind, always the peacekeeper, and her loving, gentle spirit was felt by all who knew her. Her light will be shining brightly in the heavens until we can see her again. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden with Reverend JD McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested and may be made to the First Baptist Church of Virden and will be accepted by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden who is honored to be caring for Audrey's family.
