Deacon Rick Schnetzler, Sr. Obituary (1958 - 2023)

Deacon Rick Schnetzler, Sr., 65 of Girard passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 25, 1958 in Moberly, Missouri the son of Bobby Joe and Mary Louise (Christensen) Schnetzler. He married Anna "Annie" Weaver on May 22, 1982 at Sacred Heart Church and she survives his passing. Deacon Rick was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Virden and was ordained to the Diaconate in 2016 and took great pride in serving his Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved the St. Louis Cardinals, car racing and his animals. He was always a servant of his community and showed this in many ways, even taking on the role of Gizmo the Clown and Santa. He was proud of his service to his Country, having served in the United States Army. He had recently retired from Truss Slater in Virden. His greatest love was his family and caring for them in any way they may need. In addition to his loving wife of 41 years, Annie, he is survived by his sons Rick, Jr. (Amanda) Schnetzler of Virden and Ryan Schnetzler of Girard; daughter Meghan (Morgan) Theel of Thayer; 4 grandchildren: Hunter, Griffin, Miles and Emelia; sisters Gina Bolden, Kathy Graham and Rhonda Scammahorn; brothers Mike (Anne) Schnetzler, Frank Schnetzler, Wes Tabor and Arlan Teeters, Jr.; Stepfather Arlan Teeters, Sr. and numerous loving family members. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Sacred Heart Church in Virden with Bishop Thomas John Paprocki and Father James Palakudy concelebrating. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery in Girard with full military honors conducted by Virden American Legion Post #386. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the Sacred Heart Church in Virden. Memorials are suggested and may be made to Sacred Heart Church Ceiling Fund and will be received by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Homes, Virden who is honored to be caring for Deacon Rick's family.
