Esther L. Brubaker Obituary (1927 - 2021)

Esther L. Brubaker, 93 of Virden passed away peacefully while sleeping in her home on May 8, 2021 in the company of her granddaughter Mafie Allen. Esther, the daughter of Howard and Helen (Scott) Browning, was born September 4, 1927 in Jacksonville, IL. Esther married M. Carroll Brubaker on February 10, 1946 in Girard, IL and he preceded her in death on December 3, 2013. Esther worked a variety of jobs throughout the course of her life and was always known as a hard worker with an impeccable work ethic. He last employment was at Showtime Lanes in Virden where she worked well into her eighties. An avid bowler for over fifty years, she also served as secretary of her bowling leagues for many of those years. Giving blood at local blood drives was another of her passions, not wanting to miss a single one. Esther also loved and enjoyed being around her family. Surviving are daughters Rose (Don) Allen of Virden, IL, Bev (Lynn) Weddle of Thayer, IL; son Maurice Brubaker of Virden, IL; five grandchildren Donnie (Mafie) Allen of Virden, IL, Brad (Chris) Allen of Beardstown, IL, Lynn (Laura) Weddle of St. Charles, IL, Eric (Michelle Marcelino) Allen of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Aaron (Amy) Weddle of Fairfax, VA; thirteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; brothers Donald Browning of Crete, IL and Warren Browning of Timberlake, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Marcus, sisters Mildred Shinnebarger and Lois Mullen and brother Robert Browning. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden with Stephen Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of services Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested and may be made to the Virden Rescue Squad or the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center and will be received by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden who is honored to be caring for Esther's family.
