Fred Lamb Obituary (1938 - 2020)

Fred A. Lamb, 82, of Virden, IL passed away on September 6, 2020 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Virden. Fred was born on May 6, 1938 in St. Louis, Mo to Lucille and Fred Lamb. Fred married Carol Jean Carmody on August 1, 1964 at St. Norbert's Church in Hardin, Illinois. Carol survives along with their children Jeff (Nicole) of Arvada, Colorado, Barry (Ann) of Auburn, Illinois, and Kirk. There are 7 grandchildren - Kailyn, Kensey, Darren, Jeremy, Anthony, Margwen and Bryan, and 1 great grandchild, Parker. Fred graduated from Staunton High School in 1956, then went on to proudly serve in the US Army for 3 years. Fred graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education in 1963 from Southern Illinois University Alton/Edwardsville, and later earned a master's degree in Education from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville in 1970. Fred taught junior high and later high school for the Virden School District for 30 years, retiring in 1994. In addition to teaching, Fred coached track and junior high basketball for Virden during his career. Additionally, Fred coached junior high basketball for the New Berlin school district in retirement, ending his career as one of the winningest junior high coaches in Illinois. Fred was a passionate coach, an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved playing Blackjack, and adored his white German Shepherds, Sammy and Suzie. A private ceremony will be held at Airsman and Calvert funeral home in Virden, with plans for a public celebration of life at a later date.
